Major accomplishments When Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian explorer (sailed for Spain) heard of Columbus finding a new and faster route to Asia, he had suspision if Columbus had really found Asia. So a couple years later, Vespucci set off to see for himself. He knew about a description written by Marco Polo, that described Asia. When he went to "Asia" it wasn't like the description at all. Vesspuci now relized that this was a new piece of land. It was undiscovered!Several years later a German mapmaker  made a world map that had the new land. The word America comes from the name Amerigo.
